Arthur Ashe Teammate Raymond Turner Visits UCLA Freshman Seminar
In early October of 2019, Raymond Turner, tennis teammate and Charles Sumner High School classmate, met with students in the freshman seminar on Understanding the Second Half of the Twentieth Century in the Life of Arthur Ashe. Turner not only shared stories about Ashe’s tennis prowess during his senior year of high school, but also offered his perspectives on the racial dynamics of St. Louis, Missouri and the opportunities and challenges they faced at the famous all-black high school.
