Arthur Ashe became the first inductee into the U.S. Professional Tennis Association Hall of Fame: inducted in 1993. Also, although Ashe never participated in the International Olympic Games, he was the first athlete without a link to the Olympic Games to be awarded by the International Olympic Committee, the coveted Olympic Order – 1993. Juan Antonio Samaranch, IOC (then) president [Honorary President (2001-2010)], said Ashe epitomized what the Olympic Order was meant to honor. Both awards are the highest honor bestowed by the 2 establishments respectively.
