On May 3, 2022, Arthur Ashe Legacy Program Director Dr. Patricia A. Turner and oral historian Chinyere Nwonye welcomed 25 visiting graduate students and faculty from the Virginia Commonwealth University Center for Sport Leadership Program. Presenting in the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame Press Room, Dr. Turner and Nwonye shared emerging themes from the oral history project, including Ashe’s career coinciding with the Open Era of tennis; his role in co-founding organizations like Players Enterprise Incorporated, Association of Tennis Professionals, and ProServ; and the growing narrative of women’s professional tennis in our archive. Discussing future directions for the Legacy Fund, the Ashe team highlighted plans to collaborate with UCLA Athletics on a student-athlete initiative and host the annual UCLA-Arthur Ashe Booth, which raises funds for student scholarships, at the U.S. Open later this summer.
